This attractive summit, not only offers a superb and extensive view of the Canterbury plains, but has an interesting round trip route.
Beginning from behind the main homestead, we will follow a four wheel drive track to the summit [ 896m ].
This track is easy to follow and climbs steadily through small saddles and tussocks.
At the top there are panoramic views of all the major foothill peaks. together with the Selwyn river catchment.
After spending some time at the summit, we can drop down on the North side and have lunch by the Selwyn River.
This walk is graded moderate, with the round trip expected to take approx 3.5 hours.
TRANSPORTATION
What we normally do as we meet at James and Danny Place have a coffee and a bit of a natter then we organise the cars, both James and I can take about 10 people between us! It is a good idea to text Danny telling him you will need transport ()
COST
If you could just give your driver $10 dollars (per person) this is for the return ride and helps keep it affordable for all.
So you can start coming from 8 o’clock as that is when the coffee machine is on! We get away sharply by 8:30am
Message us or text Danny on if you would like further details
Look forward to seeing you there!
PLEASE NOTE
Essential items to carry
• Water
• Food
• Warm clothing (even on hot days)
Anyone who does not come with the essential items listed above may be excluded from joining us that day. Thank you for understanding that this is for the safety of all participants.
Highly Recommended items to carry
• Wet weather gear
• Strong and suitable footwear. Trainers may be suitable on some walks but are often not suitable on mountain walks.
Although we encourage anyone to join in and beginners are certainly welcome, please be aware of the fitness level some walks require. If the word ‘Mt’ is in the title its up a mountain and may not be a good starting walk for beginners or people with lower fitness levels. If in doubt start with one of our easier walks and work your way up.
